Breastfeeding Strategies for Birth Professionals Course

Rehab and medical providers are trained to support women before, during, and after birth to reduce perinatal injuries, minimize unnecessary interventions, and improve postpartum recovery. However, few providers receive adequate training in breastfeeding support, such as latch assessment, milk production, common breast issues, and evidence-based strategies, despite frequently addressing maternal pain and dysfunction through biomechanics and positional adjustments.
This continuing education course fills the gap in breastfeeding support by providing evidence-based knowledge on human lactation, manual therapy for breast/nipple pain and engorgement, and positioning strategies tailored for both the mother and infant. Practitioners will be able to recognize issues that require referral to a lactation consultant and address orthopedic impairments earlier that are related to breastfeeding which include wrist, chest, shoulder, thoracic, and cervical dysfunction in both mothers and infants.
By integrating orthopedic assessment, postpartum recovery interventions, and advanced knowledge of human lactation, practitioners will enhance their ability to support breastfeeding relationships, improve outcomes, and provide comprehensive care during the birthing year.

World Breastfeeding Month Photo Shoot
Celebrate World Breastfeeding Month with Rooted Mamas! We are planning a group latch photo for Thursday evening. We will meet at 5:30 at River Park in Hamilton, getting everyone set up to take a group photo at approximately 6:00pm courtesy of Chelsea Yoder Photography. The event and group photo are free, but after the group photo you have the option to shoot individual photos with your babe for $10 (you will receive digital copies).
Feel free to bring a potluck style snack or drink, hang out and meet some other mamas!

Restorative Birth Prep Workshop
Work with your body, not against it!
Join Doula Ari Abrahamsen of Pea Shoot Doula, Prenatal Certified Yoga Instructor Val Aerni of Aspen Leaf Yoga, and Pelvic Health PT Amanda Lasseter of Rooted Pelvic Health & Yoga for this dynamic birth prep workshop. Ari will take you through the emotional stages of labor, offering tips and tricks to keep your cool and manage intensity along the way. Amanda will teach you how to connect with your often forgotten pelvic floor muscles, preparing for labor and planning for the best outcomes postpartum. Val will wrap up with a gentle yoga flow with an emphasis on connecting movement to breath and mama to baby.
We will also serve a light, nourishing meal and beverages, and have opportunities to connect with other expectant mamas! This workshop is tailored toward moms and is not incorporating specific partner techniques. Registration fee is on a sliding scale from $50-75 without proof of income or hardship required.
